    Hartely 22ft

ok guy went to look at a boat, as the title says, it has a 292 merc cruiser inboad motor,

it need some minor reapairs, and the motor hasn't been going for a while, but have been told it goes, the trailer is fair,

    no finders or accessories,

what value would this boat be in it's current condition, guesterment thx

and what roughly would it be worth done up

If the regular maintainence hasnt been kept up tothe engine and leg, it could end up being a money pit.

You would want to get it real cheap IMHO!

Once done up, you may be lucky to even get back what you paid for it with the boat market the way it is. And this isnt taking into account the time you would put in yourself (this may be more of a hobby for you so doesnt need to be accounted for?)

If it is the perfect boat for you, then buy it and bring it back to the condition that you want (and reliability) and get use and enjoyment out of it.
If you want to make money out of it....... I am not the one to answer that.

If you want some tips on what to look for with the sterndrive, shoot Nick (ausfish name BM) a msg, he will give you the ins and outs for the particluar model Mercruiser.

    Cheers

    Is it local matey?
If so I could go and have a look with you.

Sad thing is Hartley's are not worth that much either in a do up state or done up state.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Is it just the inboard that needs some minor repairs - or does the Hull need repairs as well? - I am 3 years into a rebuild on a 16 foot hartley that "needed some minor repairs................." Believe me - if there are minor issues with the hull - the more you dig the more you will find. If the motor has been neglected the hull will surely have been as well.

Its all good if you are a Hartley or wooden boat enthusiast and plan on making it super shmick and are prepared to invest the time time and effort - but if you are looking for a cheap boat to get offshore my advice would be to look elsewhere unless you are absolutely certain the hull has no rot in it. (How old - how was it built (modern epoxy?), how was it kept)

(In my case i've fished out of the boat i'm rebuilding for years and two of its sisterships as well and have caught lots of fish out of them - and so wanted to get this one back on the water - even then if i knew it was going to be such a big project i think i would have burnt it 3 years ago and been fishing the last 2 and a half years out of a platey....)

Don't mean to be all doom and gloom about the boat - there are some great hartley's out there - just make sure you check out the hull very thoroughly. The motor might be the least of the problems.
