    Lure Fishing on SEQ Dams

    Hey Guys,

Over Easter the family is off to Stanthorpe for holidays near Stormking Dam.

I'm just learning the ropes with kayak trolling and I even have less of an idea with freshwater fishing.......................

Does anyone have any suggests on a good lure for freshwater fishing on dams (more specifically troll fishing)?

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Cheers and regards,

    Jay

For stormking, some No2 and no3 stump jumpers. Its stocked with cod and I think Yella's.
Stump jumpers are a good cheap lure specifically made for freshwater fish. Buy a starter set at Big W about $20 for 3. mixed size ones.

Otherwise predatek boomerangs in 65 or 80mm and RMG Poltergeists in the 50 and 80mm sizes are good sizes to start with. usually around $15 each

If your super keen and think you'll get a big cod, No1 Stump jumpers.

There are a lot of good Australian made lures out there for cod, but the prices are frightening. (You'll never think a jackall is an expensive lure again) If you become hooked on Cod fishing they are worth it for serious Cod fisho's, but not for a bit of a holiday trip.

Feral's suggestions will work. Paddle slow. Just keep the lures working.

    Take some spinner baits too.

    Jason,

Also grab a couple of the Halco Poltergeist 50's. These get down to 3+ meters. They're not all that expensive either. I like the R26 and H66 colours. Used these recently at Glenlyon Dam (near Stanthorpe) and got some good Yellowbelly. Was trolling very very slowly (1kph) in 4 to 6 meters of water along the bank - slow is the go, as aussiebasser has commented.

    Good luck.
