Jervis Bay/Huskinson

Hi, this is my very first post. I'm taking the family down to Huskisson over easter and was after some help. I've never been to the area before. Interested in estuary, beach but also boat (own a 6 mtr southwind half cabin). Not to worried about the species, just keen too catch plenty. I'm aware that there are sanctury areas, so i will be looking into that. Should also mention that i'm still a novice when it comes to the fishing Game. cheers

Mate sorry I can't be much help as it would be at least 40 years since I was last there.
However there used to be a little wharf for the kids to fish from, and the creek there at Husky held good numbers of flathead which were easily taken with live poddy mullet trapped on-site.
Some great fishing country to the north-east, south and south east but as you say may well be no-go zones these days. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself though, I believe it is still a very beautiful area and I'd say the boat fishing would be excellent.

Hi mate, huski fishes ok on the day, but, better off going down to st georges basin for a day trip. Not that far but unbelievable fishing on the artificial reefs. They have closed it to commercial fishers and its going off these days. Have a look on www.thefishinhub.com.au that is the local forums.

Some of the best fishing in the world as far as land based game goes!! Its basically mecca for any LBG fisho that is the headland on the north side of the bay.. the little town out there is called Currarong and there are some pretty spectacular spots close by. The easiest of the lot to access is called Big Beecroft or can be known as mermaids inlet. If you are down that way its worth a drive out to Currorong and then the walk out to BB, there is a little general store/fishing shop near the beach that can prob give ya directions to the start of the walking track.. take a spin rod and a few 40g metals out there and have a spin.. just about anything that swims past you in a boat 15/20klms offshore will swim past these ledges including black marlin!! other wise the bay itself holds snapper, awsome flathead grounds for soft plastics and heaps of squid (if you like calamari)

There is a million places to fish, snorkle in Jervis Bay, from the beach or rocks and lakes, there is just so many possibilities, the basin does fish well, but you need a boat to make the best of it, all the white sandy beaches inside the bay are good to fish from, as well as family fun and picnics, and some of the rock platforms are some of the best in Aus to fish from, with everything from Blackfish to marlin caught there.

When fishing JB in a boat, i was planning on drifting about mixing it up with bait and SP. Not knowing the area, i thought this might be the best approach? any thoughts?

one thing to remember, Jervis Bay is almost all sand, look for the marks/co-ordinates for the "middle ground" there is some good fish taken there quite often, also along the northern entrance can be good, it is also quite deep around the northern headland (Beecroft) and drifting around outside the bay itself can yield some good fish, almost all the beaches have some ribbon weed just off the shore, there is heaps of squid to be caught around those areas, good for a meal, or fresh bait. There may also be quite a few land based gamefishermen along the northern side, so if you see some balloons, do NOT go too close, especially do not venture in closer than a decent sinker can be tossed! Land based guys tend to get a bit emotional when a boatie cuts off their only live bait that they have carried for miles in a bucket!

in places where the weed is closer in, it is easy to go squidding land based, on lots of the beaches (especially at low tide) the weed is only about thigh deep, however a small boat or even a canoe will enable any place to be "squidded"

Yeah we did get just a little bit annoyed lol!!!! funny thing was we used to fish from the tubes because we wanted the blacks off the rocks and boaties who could fish where ever they wanted used to troll along the edges because someone had told them a marlin got caught there yesterday...the funny thing was they were all over the bay. And yep, the livies sometimes got carried in for miles!!!! Or spent hours in the dark at the ledge burlying them up.. My back aches at the thought of it now lol.
