Thread: Crab Pot Share Farmers

    Crab Pot Share Farmers

The fisheries are currently blitzing the Tin Can Bay/ Rainbow Beach area trying to catch these share farmers. It is so rife up there at the moment they trawl to find your sunken pots. The locals are up in arms and I would hope that who ever is doing it doesn"t get caught by a local because it could be messy.

It needs to be done more all up the coast its becoming a greater problem as they wont do anything about it, i spoke to them last week at the ramp of a local river and gave them a few regos of boats and people that i had actually caught in the act and now they are keeping an eye on things and will be having a chat to them, they just need more feedback on it so they can do something about it, not just here say.

Would a audiable alarm that went off if the bouy was lifted out of the water help? You would still need to be within earshot though.

I had an idea after reading this thread, it would not go off if you had the right equipment to lift the bouy

What sort of money would the punters be willing to pay for such a device?

Shawn....the term 'share farmers' refers to theives who steal crabs from other peoples crab pots. In another place and time this can be likened to horse thieves........they used to shoot them.
