    Squidding around Moreton Is...

Going for a week in the bay - hoping to be picked up in Tangalooma for the week starting Friday (WOOHOO!!).

Was wondering if anyone could give me any spots around Moreton IS that would be worth trying for some squid this time of year?

    Thanks in advance!

Anywhere along the inside of Moreton over the weed beds which show up as dark patches against the white sand. Depth will range from about a metre close to the beach to about eight to ten metres when the flats drop off into the shipping channel. I usually dish on the drift with one ot two jigs hanging mid water under the boat while casting and retrieving a third. Quite often when you bring in one squid others will follow it and they will then go for the hanging jigs.

Same as Freedom. Best I found is around the 3 - 6 metre depth. And I have 2 jigs out. One in the holder and one in the hand. I don't retrieve though as I get enough speed just from the drift. Usually just a one, two, three jerk in and let it drift back. Then repeat.

Thanks fellas. Is this a decent tie of year to target them?

Take extra jigs this time of year - weeddbeds + squid = schoolies.

spel check many people have good results by having a fish and drifiting a few out the back. i tend to use my electric motor over there in around 3-4 mtrs of water and fish my jigs as close to the bottom as possible within a cpl of feet off the bottom. i find i get more interest the closer i can keep my jig to the bottom. not just weed beds will hold squid any form of structure on the bottom will hold squid including bulwer wrecks. just north of curtain artificial reef there are areas of scattered besa blocks old concrete pipes and coffee rock. these can easily be seen when the water is clear or at low tide as there is only a cpl of meters of water over them. i have had better results with good size squid off of rubble/coffe rock areas rather then the weedbeds. pink and orange jigs work for me and there usually my only choice unless the water is absolutely sparkling clean then i will go with a more natural colour. cheap jigs do work but from experience and word of mouth the better quality japanese jigs are far superior in quality and will most likely always produce better results be sure to let us know how you get on

Spot on! and even cobia. You look pretty silly holding onto a light rig when a mostrous cobia swallows your jig and doesn't even know you're connected to it!
