That pretty good ecomony for a Carb 2 stroke. ...... are you sure on the figures?

Hmmm I would have used 50 litres with an 85Hp at 4200 rpm and a bit quicker, pretty good going.

    Cheers.

That's pretty good on the juice! Works out at 0.44 l/km.

I did a similar trip with the family:
    • 16 foot f/glass boat
    • 90 HP V4 Evinrude (carby)
    • 5 on board (2 adults 3 kids)
    • Esky + other usual gear
    • Distance covered 62 KM (choppy on way home)
    • Fuel used 30 litres
    • Cruised at 4000 to 4500 rpm
    • 17 pitch prop
Works out at 0.48 l/km. I was pretty happy with that.
    Cheers,
    Leigh (Kero).

    18ft Reef Ranger
    150hp Evinrude
Just me 205ltr of fuel and tackle and about 50kg of esky
I did around 150 to 160km and used approx 125ltr
Cruised at 30 to 45km/h was a bit choppy for most of the trip and did some wot runs when it smoothed out.

Average of 1.2km per litre with a 17inch SS prop, really needs a 19 inch.

As an owner of a 2010 M90A Tojo I find your figures very encouraging!
I'm sure not getting anywhere near that with my 5.3m Savage Lancer, even solo.
Guessing I'd be around 0.7l/km, although my average RPM would be around 3800 and I have the standard 15" Merc Black Max prop....difference could be your smoother hull and better prop....boy I wish I could get my figures closer to yours!
    Love the motor though.......
    Cheers!

Yeh positive on my figures, always brim the tank ( direct filler into tank) even at the same pump at the same servo. In fairness it was a very calm day on the bay.

Nigelr, when i first got the boat it had the standard 15 inch alloy prop on it, which was rubbish! And with it I was getting around 1.5 km/litre and revving out to approx 5800. I imagine your lancer would be similar, or slighlty lower as the motor is probably alot lower in the water. I did try a 19 pitch prop to which achieved 2.5 km/Litre but was useless with anymore than 2 people in the boat.

The props tested were both Yamaha S/S K2's, not brilliant props but their small diameter and blades are well suited to smaller outboards. I suspect the Merc vengeance 18 pitch would be a great combo aswell. Both brands will fit with the correct thrust washers and spacers.

I get the opportunity to test quite a few different engines and I really can't fault the Tohatsu at all. Slightly rougher at idle than a few of the others but at cruise quite, economical and from what i can tell reliable and simple to work on.

The reasoning for my post, other than to brag a little bit was that when researching Tohatsu outboards I found very little in the way of fuel consumption figures and owners opinions.

Nigelr, if local we could probably organise a quick test run with the 17 on the lancer.

Up Tin Can Bay, and out from Fraser. 4.7 Stacer MP with 60hp Merc, SS solas 3 adults plus eskies.
170km for around 50 litres. Blew me away when I realised how far we had gone and hadn't touched the spare gerrycan. Pity I sold the boat!!!!!!!!!!!

Greatly appreciate the offer Rob, but I'm down at Coffs Harbour.
Thanks for the info re-propping, motor wouln't have 20 hours on it yet so still a little tight; max RPM would be about 5-5200 at the mo.
Might have to look into the Vengence prop......thanks again.
    Cheers.
