    Sumerset Dam and Redclaw

I have a friend who is looking to head to Sumerset Dam in the next few weeks, do you need a licence to chase red claw?
I think he will take a small boat are you allowed petrol outboards?
What are the Redclaw like at the moment?
What is the best bait for Redclaw?
If you need a licence how much and where do you get them from

No licence required to chase red claw.

    Yes outboards are ok.
What are the Redclaw like at the moment?
On fire, a mate got 300 last weekend.
What is the best bait for Redclaw?
Rock mellon slices, parboiled patatoes, chicken necks.
If you need a licence how much and where do you get them fromNo licence for redclaw but he'll need a boating permit, available from either camping groung office, Seqwater Office or ranger. $15 a week I think.
If he fishes, he'll need a Stocked Impoundment Permit, $7 a week or $35 a year, get them from the shop near the dam wall, camping ground offices, some tackle shops or online.
Keep checking the pots during the day and leave them in overnight, get up early thoug or some a/wipe will beat you to them.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

Only require boat permit if its a trailer boat (car toppers dont need one)
    N
You used to be able to get a boat permit at Kirkleigh, or if its a couple of weeks away look up the SEQ water site, used to be a phone number where you could arrange one over the phone.

I have found pieces of Rock Mellon are good, cut it into wedges. One Mellon would give you 20 baits.

A length of tie wire off the bottom of the pot, stab it through the skin and bend it, easy. If it is loose they will eat it through the mesh and no Redclaw.

4 to 5 metres is a good depth.

This rockmelon.......do you need full depth of the flesh, or can you take your share before you put em in the pots.

    cheers

    Oldboot,

Dont be tight, mate give rockmelon flesh on the skin and squeeze a bit. Drill some holes in plastic container and zip tie container to bottom. Your bait will be still there an wont be eaten in a hurry.
