Jet Head Questions and DIY skirted lures, & lure colour and strategy...
So I got some new jet heads to make some skirts to bag a few who...
1. One has holes in the head and is a concave/bowl shape inside.
2. One has holes in the head, and it's pointed out.
What do these head differences mean for performance and action/ noise/whistle or what?
I have a few hex heads with different and interchangeable skirt colours (Purple and black, Blue/White/Orange, Blue/White/glow, yellow and orange).
Reguarding the jet heads... what can I put behind them in material and colour to attract the who? I've thought about cutting the nose out of a larger 5or 6" squid and attaching it to the head that way.
I can get bigger squid skirts too, but if they are bigger in diameter than the head they are attached to is that going to cause problems for the lures action?
I was thinking of making a few twistie (the chips) skirts from the orange and green twistie packets as they are silver and green, and silver and orange...any other ideas...I read one guy who used the silver wine carton liner...but i don't drink.
Does anyone troll plastic squids skirts on their own and if so how do you rig them...with a sinker of some kind in the head?
Do they work better attached to a jet/hex head of some kind?
Also are squid skirts more of a when it is light/the sun is up kind of lure as opposed to when it is dark? I've been putting on hardbodies in the morning b4 first light because they rattle and have action where skirts have no rattle or noise (though I've been told Jet heads have a whistle about them...???)
Any lure colour and strategy reguarding dark to light fishing into the morning would be appreciate too (most of the locals here say brighter fluros in the morning before and up till sun up (and generally fishing shallower) then more natural colours blue/silvers etc once the sun is up (and generally fishing deeper on diving boards etc if necessary)
Re: Jet Head Questions and DIY skirted lures, & lure colour and strategy...
As far as i know the holes in the jet heads are there to create a bubble trail of sorts to help attract fish. Thats about all i really know mate as i don't use them much.
