Waterproofing Canopys

Interested what sucess you have Waterproofing canopys. Have tried few different products which work but dont last... Any ideas ??

Yeah I have tried everthing aswell nothing in a spray can works.
Buuuut there is a wax stick that works on me canvas parts on me Rapid caravan, on a hot day you rub the stick on for a perfect water proof seal.

Basically it's just candle wax, so I'm thinking if you melt some candles in the microwave and then paint the wax on your canvass that will do the same thing.

It would be nice to spray it on but think that would be dificuilt unless you had a hot spray gun aswell. Hmmmmm maybe you could sink the spray gun in hot water every minute or so to keep the wax flowing.

Mate it took me couple of days to jog the old memory into gear but I think I can help on this one.
There is a product we used to use in the army for waterproofing older canvas tents and in worked a treat.
The product is called Bell Proof and as stated it is for waterproofing canvas. Should work on your canopy ok. If you try a disposal store or canvas supplier they should have it. I would test it on a descreet spot first. It is a thin liquid and we used to paint it on with a brush. If you have spray gun that should work nicely.

I used to get a product from a saddler..manufacturer name is "Joseph Liddy's" but cannot remember the product name. They use it on saddles..it worked a treat and lasted for ages

Most 'aftermarket' coatings will wear off, decay and otherwise disappear over time - requiring re-coating often.
But on my very old bimi there are large areas where the original surface has totally cracked off and gone away - so the areas of raw canvas leaked like a sieve.
So I tried troweling on white sikaflex - worked well but really hard work to do. So then I tried diluting sika down with turps - now easy to paint on and get into the stitches etc, and cures perfectly.
Little problem is it looks cr*p - even if you can smooth it before it cures, the rubbery surface picks up filth and can;t be easily cleaned. But it works well - nearly 4 years since the first section and no degradation and perfectly waterproof - but looks worse than ever !!! Now no need to replace the old bimi - probably 20 or 25 years old with another 10 in it - by then though it will end up as raw canvas, all coated in sika on the top ! Best to take the boat out on a trip to save from looking at it in the carport and throwing up. Hope that helps.
