Local creek just below Vansitart road, 5 Vermin Carp, one unknown but assume Tilapia and a small silver perch(I think, and returned to the water) All vemin stabbed in the brain and burried along with the Tilapia (I hope)
well done on the vermin mate sadly i spotted a tilapia down here called the pest and conservation and they hadnt heard of them being in nsw. great another thing for bass to compete with
Thanks for confirming that I killed and returned the correct fish, Will hit the creek again tomorrow. Might drag out the European style pole that I have.
Byron_moses, will let you know next time I'm down that way.
Fished the same spot and eradicated some more vermin, more tilapia and carp, added 2 new species as well, mullet and an eel tail catfish, hooked a turtle as well.
Catty was about 30 cm, everything else was smaller
That perch looks too tall in the body to be a spangled but the head looks not quite right to be a silver either, the other one is a tilapia but since when has European carp been in those areas? they couldnt physically get there unless deliberately seeded??
Carp are in the Logan so I guess with the rain they came down the river then swam up Slacks Creek then into Scrubby Creek, they can tolerate a fair bit of salt for a while.
Unfortunately carp have been in both Slacks Creek and Scrubby Creek for a while. In some places they are quite thick. Tilapia seem to be heading towards a similar distribution range.
carp will handle very salty water in winter when its cooler. warm salty water will kill them.
ive seen them die at 12 parts in summer but survive 14 ppt in winter. so there are times when they have opportunity to spread well. and then its possible that birds could drop them, even as a fry or egg.
