Planning a boat trip from Urangun to Wathumba.Have a 5.2metre steber half cabin with 1994 Johnson.115hp motor..Anyone know what fuel consumption i can expect from this set up..Its about a 100 klm round trip.. i have a 150 litre tank but ,know i will be taking extra fuel and also know my motor is a guzzler on fuel.. I calulated about 1.5 litre per mile. We hope to stay couple of nights anchored near camp ground.. Only been ther by 4 wheel drive..
well lets see, your motor does 1.5L per KLM, you are going 100K and have 150L, that means you have EXACTLY enough to get there and back, and should run out at the ramp! as long as it is not rough, you use more than you think and a million other variables! take plenty more in reserve, you will be able to put it in the tank when you get there and only have empty containers to contend with (maybe)
1.5litre per mile,i work out approx 100mile range??? if it is 1.5l per mile not KM. And thats using the full 150Litres
i would Definately take extra fuel and oil, the weather can change up there in an instant, plus you would be loaded with camping gear etc so that will increase your fuel consumption as well.
You will need 120lt there and back safely, you will know when you arive up there the fuel burn for the first half
You will burn a third more if you are fully laden, drop your excess fuel etc on the bank under a tarp oppositte the camp up river in the bend, deep water, it will be safe there
If you are going for 3/4 days and intend to fish rooneys etc then I take around 470lt, 400 under floor tank these days in lieu of all those drums, and 70lt emergency so wherever I am it will get me back to the ramp
The best idea is to get on google earth and map out where you think you are going to fish and travel over the time and get a total km. Work out your burn from there.
Watumba to roonies about 60k return, if you intend to cross breaksea heaps more
Be carefull of the entry to watumba, can become very dangerous to cross in any northly and westerlys, will have to push it in at low tide. There are 2 buoys in the entry that mark the path to follow. PM me if you want the marks
lots of Rid required as well, midgees will kill you and carry you away, in summer the march flies are worse than the midgies
If all is calm, or any se/southerly it is better to anchor off beach at station hill where you are protected and less km to fishing grounds, get a feed of squid whilst your there.
Be carefull not to get caught up there in bad weather, may be calm in the bay but you still have to do the crossing to urungan from Mooney point, at worst if you do get caught wait till the barge comes across and stay about 10m from his stern and he will give you a nice easy lift home
