    Catfish Bribie Passage

It has been a few weeks since I had taken the boat out and my mate and I decided to wash the boat. We braved the elements in Bribie Passage on sunday morning.
We launched the boat in a gentle breeze (gale) and headed out towards the bay. On getting near the bridge we decided that it was too rough to go any further so we anchored near the bridge and settled down with the anticipation of drowning our bait.
We had a couple of light lines out along with a pair of heavy rigged lines. to our surprise the only thing we could catch were on the heavy rigs with the result being 5 catfish with the biggest over 63cm and several Parramatta players. this is the first time that I have ever caught catfish or eels in the passage.
As we weren't getting anything better we decided to head up near the oyster leases but after half an hour of being thrown about we decided to head home and as my mate pulled his last line in he had a hit and a small run. After a quick struggle he netted yet another catfish.
I have never caught a catfish in the passage before let alone this many in two places and I now believe this is due to the flooding and I hope that I never catch another.

I went out with a mate to his secret spot near Mud Island where he once caught a 12 kg snapper.

We anchored up about 300 metres from a dredge where the sounder showed lots of biggies in 8 metres of water.

You should have seen the look of disgust when I pulled up this huge catfish, he wouldn't even let me keep it for my Latvian mate.

Catfish, There seems to be alot around. The same thing happened to me. we caught some of those biggies and let them go disgustingly. They slime every where and spewed up crap on the boat. I got brassed off so I filleted and skinned the last one and put the 2 fillets in a icy seawater brine and took it home. My Chinaman Land lord said they were good eating. Anyway Cut the fillets into slices rolled in flour and egg and cooked them. Threw apiece to the cat he loved it,feed the Kids and myself. The misses came home from work(a very fussy fish eater) late at night and ate the leftovers. She absolutely loved it..Another Fishing buddy of mine done exactly the same thing and they ate there one 2 and love them. Now we all got feeler under our chin haha. I did get a thick ear when I told the misses what it was.

they've appeared in the caboolture river as well. we used to only catch them in the little feeder creeks and have never caught on in the main river but i'm assuming the rain/flooding has flushed them out.
