How many GPH bilge pump for bait tank?

What size pumps are most people running on their bait tanks? My tank size should work out to be around the 20 - 30 L mark, but I have no idea on how big a pump that would require. I'll have a pickup scoop for water on the move and the pump via a dedicated hose for water at rest.

    Cheers

I'm using a Rule 360 with not problems. Bait tank is approx 30 litres
Maturity is not when we start speaking BIG things,it is when we start understanding small things

I use a Rule 500 with a rubber washer in between the pump and the mount to keep the noise down....In the past I used a 360 but found once they age the water intake is just not enough.

both of mine are 500 gph, but only small tanks

one is 40 litres, and the smaller one is about 25 litres

wouldn't go any less that 500 gph though for those little tanks. ratio it up from there

500GPH Johnson pump on our 30L tank with a tap to restrict flow, hoping it will support two tanks this size so we can put squid in one and yakkas & slimeies in the other. Using single tank we have kept bait alive & healthy for 10 hours (slow day on the chew)

I'm aiming on the whole school mate. If it gets hot out on the water it doubles as a spa. I have a new 1200 watt stereo system, so maybe a pole and some blond babes and its show time.

Thanks folks, I think I'll aim for a 500, depending on the final tank size.

Stu, your bait tank is only 40 L smaller than my fuel tank!

Re: How many GPH bilge pump for bait tank?

the main concern with high capacity pumps is the outlet size, plenty have over flowed the bait tank into the boat because the outlet was way too small!

My 60Lt tank is fed by a 500Gph rule - seems to keep bass & jacks ok for the day.

In my old CC - I used to have a 120lt drum which we used for big livebaiting sessions using slimies , yackas & fusaliers & with just the 500 Gph rule we could keep easily 30 big baits alive....... worked a treat

Craig, it doesn't matter how much aerated water you put in it is more important to get rid of the ammonia build up at the bottom of the tank than anything else, this is what kills the fish off.
