dont knock on deaths door... ring the doorbell and run... death hates that!!
Anybody who starts the argument if you caught it in a lake or river is obviously just jealous that he himself can not catch such a quality jack..usually a quick search revealing their lack of fish posts will confirm that ...Like viper said it is a decent jack no matter where you caught it mate.

Lotta jacks lately have looked fat. Might have more to do with a cold spring, LA Nina and then a big wet than any lakes.
Jacks in true landlocked lakes are actually very rare. Its not worth the time and effort. I know a few GC lakes, and I have mates who have been targetting em with no success at all. The jacks dont seem to survive in lakes, unless the lake has a flow through to a river. I can tell you that theres no jacks in the lakes at Oxenford, Coombabah , Robina and Carrara. Find the spot where the lake drains into the creek, and chuck your line into the creek, thats a much better option.
They are also rare in jack stocked lakes such as Awoonga. Only 4 caught in the last few years there according to the local guide.
Its just a theory, but I reckon they get timid unless they find the aerated water from a river. This lack of attack motivation, could lead them to starve and die.
cheers
Andrew
Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.
well originally jacks were breed at the DPI Station on bribie island. they were breed to stock into impoundments to feed the barra...and a % found their way into the aquarium trade.
I have to go along with Andrew as its not their natural habitat and the ones that ive kept in aquariums still need a hand full or rock salt with every water change to keep them happy. And thats with plenty of airation the best filters.
The best part of it was watching him slam a pilly in one gulp and just the scales filter out his gills plates..
