Thread: replacement sounder ?

    replacement sounder ?

Hey guys my sounder is finally on its way out with black marks starting to appear on the screen and although my GPS works well and is still very reliable I'll be getting a combo unit that allows a very small and accurite zoom on the gps, I'm not interested in the side scan type things as I only really use my sounder to find fish in deep water. Was thinking lowrance but am open to what you guys have to say on all brands. Needs to be high quality sounder and needs to have very accurite and small zoom in on gps and would also like to stay under 2 grand if possible. Also info on maps used by the units and if they come with them or not.
    Cheers

    Re: replacement sounder ?

    Hi D River,

I have the Lowrance setup on my boat.

There is a thread I started late last year debating the benefits of one single combo or two independent units.

I ended up with 2 x 5 inch Lowrance. One combo and 1 fish finder and I have them networked. Best setup I have ever had. I managed to pick them both up on sale so the entire setup was around $1600. Cheaper than the 7 inch combo.

Anyway what ever way you decide to go I think you will be happy with Lowrance. I have had them in two other boats and never had a problem. Easy to use out of the box and once you figure out the menu you can customise to your liking.

    Re: replacement sounder ?

I'm a bit worried, seems siegfried has been stalking me and my boat. I bought a fcv 585 and 1kw trannie and a garmin 4010 from seppoland for around the 2k mark. They're only quite new to me so i haven't realy had a good go at them but from what i can tell they will do the job just fine for my needs.
