That is one neat wiring job.
You've got me thinkin about winches now, thats so neat and compact.

Thats just brilliant workmanship. wish someone would do that to my boat........where do you live
Well done Spiro..Are you still gunna keep the 565 longer term.I thought you were thinking of something else as most of us do inevitably. The worst thing would be to sell it then regret it I suppose.
Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it.
Live in Melbourne. Weather is crap so we have plenty of time off the water to do things right.
Looked at upgrading for a while but can't see the sense in spending an additional $70-80k to step up to a new 6 or 6.5m glass boat. So I'm hanging on to it for now and intend on making a few changes/improvements over the next 12 months or so. The winch is just the first of those.
Very impressed with that install. I have a related question that someone out there might be able to assist me with. I have a V17R and have just finished a complete reno on it.
My boat doesn't have a walk through windscreen and the question I have, and one that is becoming more of an issue now that I am getting a bit less flexible with age, is about how I can drop and raise the anchor without having to go under the windscreen and up through the anchor well. (its ok when I have the kids on-board but....).
What I do is have the rope and anchor behind my seat and drop and raise the anchor over the side. Retrieval is done by laying the rope slack along-side and then pulling it in - which sometimes means a sideways pull against the breeze.
Does anyone have any ideas - other than installing a winch at this stage (budget is a bit depleted after the new motor install)????
Cheers.
Are you using some sort or float to help raise the anchor?
thats a nice winch and a nice install ,good job
Takin' a leaf out of your book. That Formula of yours is out of control
BTW, good to see EC adopting your molds. I'm on the registry
In that case, it may be worth considering of those styrene or inflatable balls floats. They attached to your anchor rope via a stainless ring. When your ready to raise the anchor, you just drive off. The float works down the line and raises the anchor for you. It then keeps the anchor afloat and you just drag it it. No real weight to worry about.
That anchor retrieval system is something that I have been toying with for awhile, but in addition to that I was hoping one day to work out a better way for retrieval than having all the anchor rope, chain and anchor on the deck and in the way. I guess that the only way is via electric winch as with the original thread.
In the meantime I will give the the retrieval buoy a go. Thanks.
I was in the same situation with my Haines 16r. I went for the retreival float system first but, as you said, you still end up with all that stuff in the back of boat and there is also a chance of scratching the boat while bringing the anchor in over the side. Also its not the best for your back either. I ended up going for a cheap South Pacific winch from ebay. It was about $500 ( plus the rope and chain and swivel) and I'm very happy with it all now. Never a problem since..
What style of winch? Got any pics of the winch mounted. I know that the 16 and 17 foot Haines V..R are pretty similar, except no hatch cover on the 16 from memory.....cheers.
