    Fisheries Ap For I-phone

My girlsfriends mate, has been asked to design an Ap for Fisheries NSW. I haven't spoken to him yet about what the brief is for the App however he has mentioned the possibility of a QLD App. I have heard all this through my girlfriend so have not confirmed it with him however she has said about it including tide times, boat ramp locations, maps and a calender. Now with more and more people owning an I-phone i thought it would be worthwhile asking this question.

What types of things would benifit you in an App? I have various Apps at the moment, ones that include tide times, moon phases and GPS, however having an App that can be used as a one stop shop would obviously be benifical.

    My suggestions would include

Calender with tide times and moon phases.

Up to date QLD fish sizing, bag numbers, restrictions through out the year.

    Boat Ramp locations and information

    Basic GPS to log marks

Maybe a similar database to Grants Guide To Fishing that you can flick through to find out what is the fish you just caught.

I am sure the Ausfish community can come up with some great ideas, because i have struggled to find an App that really covers everthing.

Can't wait to hear some ideas.

    Cheers Brogsy

How about an APP that applies KY to your lower body when ever your near a goverment official........... sure would save some pain and would give a clear indication of when your about to be shafted.

GPS tagged photo's - so you can overlay your catch on the map - similar to the Navionics app.

BOM coastal waters forecast, weather warnings and synoptic charts

Green zone locations and perhaps phone numbers like fisheries and VMR contacts would be helpful.

You can download Navionics maps on your iphone for about $15. SHows via lines where green zones are.

Its a good deal for the price as you get full navionics maps for whole of Aus

that is the best reply Ive seen on ausfish for a loooong time, rofpml.

    How about solunar peaks?

    Also;
The ability to overlay pics of catches, in the same way google earth has pics, would be a bonus. Why not just link it to google earth, and save yourself the programming time?

Then add a filter, so that they could be sorted by date range.

How would you like to go fishing and know what was caught in the area this week?

Of course it would be voluntary to declare catches, and open to abuse and false claims, but you could add a member credibility rating to verify reports.

This could become the facebook of fishing.
Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.

I reackon a great feature would be a fish ID program with photos up to date bag and size limits, something really cool would be if you took a photo of an odd fish it could ID it for you

Oh and if you could integrate seabreeze that would be sweet as

What I WOULDN'T want to see in a Fisheries app is the back feeding of information back to fisheries.

An iPhone app would be all to easy for fisheries to gather intel, we ALL know how that information would be used....

Reef Closure Dates, Closed season dates (Barra) and Updates on changes would be nice rather than just updating the bag size limit on a species, I know I'm one of those people that once I know about a size limit I generally don't look at the size limit again unless I see an update.

Your right Heath, would be very easy for them to put some coding in that sends data from your phone back to their server... especially if your wishing to use GPS information for tides etc...

I would love to see an App with: Tide time adjusted from GPS reading, Moon phases, fishing rules (sizes/bags/closures), wind/wave/current predictions.

I can't see them piggy backing data from Seabreeze or any other site unfortunately they would need to get consent from the site to re-publish their data which means less hits on their pages etc... I know one app I use to use had motor mouth fuel prices re-published within their app. they were asked to remove it within the week

    Cheers
    Brandon...

I already have navionics. How does it show the current green zones? I dont see any lines, I had to plot the boundarys as saved Tracks which was a pain.

If you've ever paid for a NSW licence then you've already had the KY applied (along with a bit of numbing gel) - that's where the money for the app development is coming from!

    Re: Fisheries Ap For I-phone

I thought as soon as i heard about the App that if data was added, it could surely somehow be accessed by Fisheries. Has Ausfish or any other forums ever looked at designing an App for the types of things we are talking about?
