    Glennlyon Dam

    Hi,

I am heading down to the glennlyon dam in a couple of weeks with the whole (extended) tribe to have a break and get some fishing in. I'll be taking my 12' tinnie but was also contemplating taking my canoe as well (Due to the fact we have more than 4 people wanting to fish), can anyone tell me if this dam is suitable for a canoe or does it often get a little wild? I know Tenterfield is often windy.

The only fresh water fishing I have ever done is in the creeks around Tenterfield with wood grubs or worms so I would be keen if someone could give some advice on what sort of lures or fly's I could purchase to try. I have inherited a abu garcia bait caster and a fly rod which I am keen to try out. I have some maps of the dam with area's to fish in, but have trouble finding tackle recommendations.

Are their many crayfish in the dam? Can you catch them with a crab pot? I plan to make some gateraid bottle shrimp traps and I read here that unscented soap is great bait.

The kids don't care too much what they catch, even a cat fish is a great catch for them, and if they have fun fishing then so will I.

    Re: Glennlyon Dam

There are crays and some redclaw there but not thick.
Please do NOT take crab pots they trap turtles take operahouse pots.
If Brian Dare sees you with crab pots you will be most unwelcome.,
    Best bait is shrimp.
Brian has a good range of lures there and is full of good advise.
Canoe will be ok unless you venture into the main dam when the ski boats are active but will be quite ok in theinlet where the main ramp is.
Kids will love it there with lots of local wildlife.
    Cheers
    Ray

The dame filled recently so there's stack of water to fish & to get away from the crowds.

Its a lovely place to visit, be sure to call or email ahead for availability.

    Cheers,
