Sorry mate - I must have missed you bringing this post back. No I haven't heard of Monty but it would be good to have some friends out there some days. There's a lot of guys who want to fish the deep driving down to Tweed. It's the closest point between the coast and the shelf in SEQld.
Jim,
I built my own "outriggers". I've got an open dinghy and it was hard to get the correct brackets to make the off the shelf versions work for me. All i did was get some heavy duty angled rod holders and braced them into the flat area on the bow just behind the anchor well. I bought some half price solid feeling 12 foot 2 piece beach rods and just run a tag line through the tip and down the last 4 runners.
What they give me is height which I was struggling for running the bent butt 37kg rods straight out of the gunnell. I had no action on the lures, well not enough for my likening but now it's sweet.
always interesting to read different styles of fishing. thanks for the good report.
interesting on the eels etc you found...
not in your league, but I have taken the 4m hornet 30klm offshore at Coffs & Gladstone....in the right conditions....dunno why it does some peoples head, like you you in your 'tinny'....which is a bloody tanker to me...lol
