Thread: Electric Anchor

    Electric Anchor

I have a Simson Lawrence Sprint 600 anchor winch on my new boat; I have 45m of chain which in not enough to anchor at some of my fishing spots.
So was wondering if anyone here has a similar setup and can you change the chain for rope? If so what diameter and make?
Would like to have a min or 100m on the boat.
    Cheers

    Re: Electric Anchor

Have you thought about running another warp of what ever length you need and just using a retrieving float and split ring instead of the winch for your deep water work?

The float / split ring is much faster and easier (IMHO) than a winch anyway. Secure the 10 or 12 mm warp on the bow and just haul it in and lower it out of a bin off the rear deck.

I use 12 mm on my Vag.

Hi Meg-A-Bite, yes you can change to a chain/rope rode on the simpson 600. I have one of those and use rope and chain combo.

It is very specific though the type that you can use (e.g. no silver or braided rope), it has to be nylon 3 strand. Give www.winchsoloutions.com.au a buzz, they have them made up, with the correct size rope and chains and all plaited togther, they are also a lewmar agent

FYI - i only have 50 metres of rope and 10 metres of chain, I dont anchor offshore I use a parachute. If I did need to anchor in deep water, I have a reef pick with 200 metres of rope and use the ball retrieve method.

I have to do this cause my anchor well is not deep enough (for the drop) for 200 metres of rope. It will hold this amount, but not for an electric to drop. Make sure your anchor well is deep enough to hold the required amount of rope.

    regards Adam

Thanks for the advice yes have decided to go the other option and keep a 200m rope and anchor for the deep water stuff.
