    Outboard Flushing

Hey all just after some opinions on using an additive when I flush out my outboard. Is it worth it, and is the best way to flush out with them. Reason why I ask is the outboard was serviced and corrosion was found. it is only a 2008 model.

    Re: Outboard Flushing

I had some advice from a couple of well experanced merc machanics that they have found no desernable differance with motors that have been always flushed with just water to those always flushed with additives. They did say that they have seen some really soft impellers after the use of flushing additives.

    Dave,

    I use a product called Salt-Ex. ( I think, I will check later )

There are other products about, but best to get lots of advice from people here, as one product actually created a major problem with a senior AF members motor a couple of years ago.

But, usually a good long flush ( with muffs or bin ) will suffice.

    Re: Outboard Flushing

Is the boat Moored or trailered home? Do you go fishing for a week at a time without flushing? Do you put the motor down after flushing to release the water in the lower leg?

    Sorry for all the questions

    Cheers
    Chris
