    Couple of Squire, Scott's Point

Went for a fish this morning with my sister-in-law's husband. Like a lot of people it has been way too long between fishing trips for me and I wasn't really sure what to expect after the floods.

Hit the water at around 7am and headed out to Garnett Rock. Drifted for a bit and dropped a few pots and then found a nice spot to anchor up. Water was still very murky and visibility was probably only a meter or so.

The next few hours was some of the best fishing I have had in that area. Baits were being smashed left, right and centre. Unfortunately most of the larger hits were from sharks and catties, but we did manage a few squire including two keepers and an undersized grassie. At one stage we had a triple hook up with a shark, a ray and a shovel nose.

Bite went off as the tide changed and didn't return. Pulled the pin at noon and picked up the pots. No keepers and only a few very small throw backs.

Glad we decided to go today, if it had been after the snapper closure we would have come home empty handed.

Good luck to anyone venturing out tomorrow,

    Dave
