    Rod Blank Advice

Just busted my Saltiga Dorado 70s, about 1/3 if the way down from the tip. (not happy Jan!)
Phoned diawa parts and adked if if they sold the rod section - nup.

So given I have the but section & guides, I thought if I could get a similar blank I could make a new one. Any suggestions from you rod builders out there on a suitable blank?

    Cheers

Maybe look at a Samurai SN402-2C
Plenty of good choices in blanks out there.

It's going to take some work getting the guides off your existing blank.
They are titanium fuji's though, so worth the effort.

I'm not quite sure if you're wanting to re-use the whole bottom end of your existing rod, or you intend to strip it.

If you try to re-use it, the trick is going to be finding a blank with the same dimensions and taper at the ferrule.

If you want to strip it then the hard part is getting the reel seat off in one piece.
Same with the bling on the grips.
With a metal seat you can heat and twist to break the glue, but on a graphite seat you're pretty much screwed. Maybe someone has a trick that's worked for them, but for the cost of a graphite seat I don't know if I'd bother.
You could get the inserts off the grips by cutting each side and drilling out the blank.
    Cheers,
    Owen

Hi, you could possibly turn your rod into a two piece? Is this what you were thinking? You would need to purchase another blank similar in size (O.D). If it is not exact, then you may end up with a rod a few inches longer or shorter than the original. You would only have to purchase a few guides, easily matched, and the same thread colour.

The power is in the Butt section anyways, so you will still have a mostly original rod for its intended purpose.

    Re: Rod Blank Advice

First off I find it extraordinary that they can’t replace the broken section on your rod providing of course it’s a 2pc. Makes me think they want you to buy a whole new rod. Anyway enough of the conspiracy theories. As others have already said finding a blank to suite will be very difficult. A close enough fit may as well be 1 mile out because if it’s not snug fit it won’t last 5 sends. I could try a repair if you like; I have a good successes rate at repairs on tip sections providing you have enough hollow to work with. Ideally you would need at least 4mm at minimum to work with so let us know.
