you cant run both units at the same frequency, as the trandsucers will clash, you must run each on a different frequency. yep I understand why you want to see it but it wont work.

I have put the post up to try to explain how the units display information, it is not about bagging one brand over another, very few people have the opportunity to see how different units display information directly side by side.

I will endevour get some footage of the units in the same modes and post the results, weather has been crap so, I have been keen to fish and not video..

Maybe I make the deckie drive while I fish, thats a thought..

    Honda.

    Stuie,

I am (as best I can) trying to be impartial, Let you guys decide for yourself. both have their pro's and con's.

BTW they are on separate transducers, shoot through hull and transom mount 50 / 200, I cant interchange because of the plugs.

    Honda.

the deckie is a much better fisherman than camera man...lol..

capt has to drive the boat while deckie catches a marlin...

    nice ground hey lump..

Do transducers actually clash if on the same frequency? When I have had my boat directly alongside another boat we were both on the same frequency, and there was no obvious clash.........

This is something that I have not been able to get a straight answer about - most people I have pressed for details have admitted in the end that they just 'assumed' there would be a clash

have you had a clash yourself honda?

    yes they do,

both units basically will not work when on the same frequency, just remember my transducers are about 450mm appart, both at the transom.

The lowrance is more sensitive to other sounder traffic. When we fish with other boats around us the lowrance unit displays a lot of interference on the screen, you see it in the form of vertical lines.

To be honest I havent had the furuno in that situation as yet so will see how it goes.

Great for you to put this up mate. I have come from a JRC ff60 to a HDS10 and I agree the Lowrance needs more fine tuning but the results I believe are better.

The HDS display does not look too good in sunlight. The colours do not stand out as much as they do on the Furuno which I think is important for seeing signal strength?

    John,

It must be a camera angle thing, the HDS is much better in sunlight than the Furuno for visibility. ON dark or overcast days both are good.

this is a short video of the bottom lock functions of both units over a bait ground. The Furuno, is showing interference from another boat that was close. (green stripes).

again 200khz on the furuno and 50khz on the HDS.

Click the picture to play the video

    Re: Furuno 585 v HDS8 - Live comparison

Where do I find bottom lock on the HDS unit, I never thought it had that feature ???.
Also when would you use bottom lock while fishing ??

    Cheers

Thats a pretty good comparison mate.

Any chance we can get another one done with the furuno at 50khz and the Lowrance at 200khz at the same time? I reckon that would be beneficial to those asking the questions as most units i have used don't show any good detail or can be patching when using 50khz at only 25m.

    Cheers

I can't answer the first question as I have a furuno but with it I never turn the bottom lock off

    Lee,

I will add it to the list. One thing that no one, has noticed is the amount of information that the HDS holds on the screen in comparison to the the furuno. Both are configured at a high ping rate and furuno has a medium (from memory scroll rate). portrait V landscape.

    fishfeeder,

bottom lock should be one of the options in your zoom menu or options. On the HDS 8 and 10 there is a button down the bottom for zoom, in that list is an option for bottom lock.

    Re: Furuno 585 v HDS8 - Live comparison

    Thanks Honda,

I will do some searching. It would be fantastic if Lowrance would bring out one of there Emulators for the HDS units.

    Cheers
