    Furuno 585 v HDS8 - Live comparison

    This is provided as informational, as a comparison of units;

    The furuno is running at 200khz and bottom lock;
    The HDS in 50khz. with split zoom.

    The footage shows the same ground, on both units, so you can get an idea of the detail and how it is displayed on both units.

    Regards

    Both look good to me.

    Was that mid water clutter on the HDS8?

    Did you find one easier to interpret and how big were the fish in the school compared to the shows?

    Appreciate the vid. Makes it easier to figure out how to drive my own unit.

    Cheers

    Craig,

    The HDS takes a bit more work and fine tunning to clean everything up, I was a bit lazy that day, but you can tell that its just clutter.

    Fish size is one of those subjective things on the HDS, but on the furuno the deper the red the more solid the return. I am finding that both units actually complement each other.

    maimai,

    No probs, its, interesting watching both units side by side.

    Honda - I have found in the bay that big red splotches are exciting. The last time I saw a deep red splotch at the hold houseboat down went a placcie and straight up (on the drift) came a nice snapper.

    Squidlet,

    The HDS takes more work fine tuning it, where as the furuno has a very easy to use controls on the front, Even full auto seems to work very well.

    We havent had a lot of time on the water with the furuno so I am still coming to grips with it a bit.

    good but to make a proper comparison , both should be running 200khz
    does the hds have true bottom lock also????

    Re: Furuno 585 v HDS8 - Live comparison

    I agree both units should be set to same parameters. I would be very interested how both compare with 200KHZ on auto and then the same ground on manual with the best pic available. Great for you to put this up mate. I have come from a JRC ff60 to a HDS10 and I agree the Lowrance needs more fine tuning but the results I believe are better.

    Thanks Marty
