Australia Day Pearlies
Headed out from Bribie early on the 26th with the plan to fish the bottom and catch a feed before putting out the trolling gear. I had four on my boat and my mate Rob had three on his boat. The bottom fishing was quite good, although the fish were not biting freely, being rather tentative. We soon had our bag of pearlies along with some moses perch and a lone squire. Rob reached his boat limit on the pearlies as well. The pearlies were not as big as we had been catching on previous trips but we did get some nice fish for the table. Rob's wife Rechelle did nail a pearly that looked better than 4kg though. The radio chatter indicated that others who targetted the bottom fish seemed to do quite well and several reported some excellent catches of large snapper. (Strange I know as they are nearly extinct)
The radio chatter also revealed that those trolling were having a fairly lean time on this particular day with only a few wahoo and dolphin fish caught. I still decided to troll and went searching for some deeper water hoping to find clean water and fish. But this was unsuccessful and we didn't turn a reel.
It was a cracker of a day weather wise and we had a ball. It reinforced how lucky we are to live in such a fantastic country. I love taking my son out fishing and will fight tooth and nail to ensure that I can continue to exercise this freedom. Too many people want us to 'enjoy nature' by sitting at home in the living room watching the discovery channel!

Re: Australia Day Pearlies
Well done. We love taking the kids out as well. Thats all they talk about for the week afterwards, dont do enough of it.
Hopefully the pelagics will pick up soon as the water clears up a bit more. There was nice blue water about 100mtrs off Hutchies and then it turned a deeper blue around the 150mtrs.
Cheers
