    Wooyung Beach

Thursday week ago I realized a 18 month old plan to fish down Pottsville/Wooyung.
Due to all type of family embargo or other drama I have not yet been able to head down there (90min return trip means often too rushed for me)
Anyway, started at Black Rocks with whole pillie chasing tailor in late arvo on incoming tide. There was a stiff onshore wind making life unpleasant, but my graphite 14ft surf & o/head combo was still getting me well out into the gutter, so I was happy.
After half hour I had not had a touch on the bait. The "floppy-fibre" guys to my left were hitting the juvenile dart every cast - but no keepers, and I was not there for dart.
There was a HUGE storm brewing out over Byron, and it was heading our way, so I decided to move further south to the outskirts of the storm-head along Wooyung.
First cast on whole pillie and 6/0 hook produces a solid hit and a decent 34cm Tarwhine (we called it a Stumpnose in South Africa) I was astounded to catch it on whole pillie and that sized hook
2nd cast produces a chopper of 35cm, 3rd cast another chopper of 35cm.
Then a series of choppers that did not hook up.
A short while later and 2 sea bream of 34 cm come out! Both on whole pillie and 6/0 hook
In all this was about a 45 min session, and as i saw the storm about to break loose on me I rushed back to the car with my catch - leaving the fish still seriously on the bite!
Well - Those were the best bream I have landed since being in Aus 18months now ... so the legend of the "horses" out Wooyung way is proven true!
Next time i will brave the storm to see what else Wooyung can produce - AWESOME spot!!

Nice fish mate. My old man used to call Tarwhine a Thanksplonk.

You'll often find that you'll get a very hot bite just before a storm breaks wherever you are - surf, estuary or freshwater, even in impoundments. It's a time that produces some magic sessions, but if you've got a graphite rod, don't point it upwards towards the clouds!!!!
