    red hot bite, but......

Hey guys, decided to check a spot i have been eyeing off for quite some time now, the only hint i will give is its around the bond uni area.. anyway i had checked it a few times during the day but can't seem to drag myself from the 5 or 6 other spots i know produce the goods.
Well, tonight i secured 7 live mullet and headed down. the first bait was in the water for no longer than 5 mins right as the tide bottomed out, it went off the way only a jack can grab one, was busy rigging a second rod and missed it (baited me) wow!! second bait goes out and im on in ten minutes and a Jack is released at 47cm (smallest one of the season) the remaining baits were all hammered over the next hour and i was out of bait (damn it) missed the rest through being baited, bad luck and pulled hooks.. will be back to that spot for sure..
think the word addicted doesnt quite cut it as far as the jack fishing this season goes.. lol

haha... its almost becoming a norm logging onto Ausfish and half expecting to see a new jack thread from you. Well done and yet another quality fish, Nath.

You are going to suffer major withdrawal sympthons when the jack season's over?

Nice again mate. Have you tried halving a mullet and using it dead? If the Jacks aren't fussy you can double the amount of baits you have left and a slab might last a few more hits??

    Re: red hot bite, but......

Yeah i do both, like livies though as i try to get the bigger models (mullet) they seem to generate more action from the larger ones. lately though can only secure smaller ones and have been using them dead.. the only drama can be the bream, tries your patience when you have spent an hour securing livies for the bream to eat em...

Yeah, tell me about it! Tore a hole in my cast net on my first cast the other day. Could only manage 3 mullet and used em cut up. The bream tore the baits to shreds and my session was over in minutes. Sux, cos I have to walk in water and mud for over half an hour.

    Nathan another great read.
Are you fishing from a boat or shore?

Well done on your run of Jacks.
Just wondering if you got him on the Lake Orr side as it has been a bit slow with the Trev's since the gate's stop opening about 2 weeks ago.

Great stuff, mate. Addictive is the word!

Have you tried using a stinger hook with the livies?

Mick, I know what you mean about lugging your arse half way down the river system only to foul your net. Done it too many times to remember. I found fishing for jacks in the tropics was actually better with dead baits, one hook through the eye of a whole or halfie, but in SEQ with livies using stinger rig. Have you found the same?

    Re: red hot bite, but......

Yeah, but I haven't fished for Jacks much in the SE. Definately caught more Jacks on dead baits here. What's a stinger hook?
What are you targeting Nath? Don't tell me you've progressed to Fingermark already!?

    Re: red hot bite, but......

    Mick,
It's just a rig with two hooks instead of one, the stinger usually being a smaller size. I cover both the heaqd region and the tail region. Works a treat with those crafty buggers, cos down ere in SEQ they'll often attack the tail when the head's hooked, and vice versa. Cover more bases this way. Like i said though, up your way and beyond, one hook through a dead whole and halfie works a bloody treat! Hope to see ya get out and do some more spearing up there too, mate!

    Re: red hot bite, but......

Yeah, been hanging to get back in the water. I've been working all over the country the past 3 years and haven't been home much but caught up with devocean (in all those dive reports with me many years ago) the other day for the first time in...., along time, so hopefully that will all change.
Good to here from you again cuzza and hope all is well.
    Mick

PS- Dan, thats a hint to take me diving

    Re: red hot bite, but......

No worries, Mick. Likewise, and I hope you get out more often, and most importantly, that you and all in that area are safe from this bast$rd cyclone, and the next bigger bugger after that! Let us all know how ya fare mate.
