I run the shoot thru transducer and it works very well and no need to cut holes

I've got the same hull (542) with an airmar transducer.

You'll need to put a 6g staino self tapper into the kickup mechanism to stop it from kicking too easily - same with the airmar on my last outsider.
Apart from that there's nil issues.

My old P66 was a nightmare until I stuck it in a wetbox inside the hull. A console fire saw me having to replace the transducer and we went for a bronze low profile thu hull job and could not be happier with it.

if you want to see a comparison, the following thread has a furuno 585 using a p76 shoot through hull against a HDS with a transom mount transducer.
