Tariff classification for fish finders?

Hi, my mates fishfinder/gps combo is held up in Customs & we have to fill in the Import Declaration form.

For the life of me I can't find the Tariff classifaction details for fish finders in the Working Tariff Pages, schedule 3 chapters. GPS/Navigational equipment 8 didgit tariff classification # is 85269100 & 2 digit Stats Code # is 30.

Would that be the same for fish finder/gps combos?

Yeah I'd reckon that about as close as your going to get it. Most of the regs are pretty broad and unless there has been a specific issue with an item, they wont have the exact description there.

The customs guys probably wont blink an eyelid or they may just correct it for you if they know of a better category.. sucks having to wait for it though.

It was posted with USPS. Looks like he's going to have to pay taxes etc now.

I've found that stuff sent by USPS is less likely to be picked up by customs than if you were to send it courier.. I think I read somewhere recently they are checking more packages while this review of GST on imports thing is going.. looks like you got unlucky..

Did this unit have an initial cost of over AU$1000?, At the moment, by legislation, there is no import or customs duty on goods with a value of less than $1000.
