Heading to Noosa this weekend with the family, staying at culgoa point beach resort. Just wondering if the river is full of fresh water or not. I won't bother taking a rod if all im going to catch is catfish.
I was up there the other day for work, I had a look at the water. Near the mouth the water looked quite clean. But once the tide turned it went to a brown mess.
I was at Noosa the week that Brissy flooded. Late in the week (14th / 15th Jan) I picked up quite a few quality lizards flicking plastics along the bank beside the T-boat hire on Gympie terrace despite the filthy fresh water. In two short morning sessions I landed 15 fish ranging from 45-65cm much to the delight of the morning walkers, all but 3 were released. Anybody using bait was plagued by catfish. With little to no rain since I suspect the river will be starting to fire again, being a sandy system drainging directly to the ocean the water will clear alot quicker than Brisbane. If all else fails fish right at the mouth, tailor should start making appearances around dawn and dusk.
I fished the north shore beach this morning for a few hours, mainly fishing south of first cutting, about a kilometre and a half from the mouth. The sea was a bit choppier than the forecast indicated it might be, but it was still fishable. Tried to spin up a tailor first but didn't get a single hit and had to quit when the arms gave out. Changed to bait fishing and got 5 solid bream and 8 quality dart before they went a bit quiet. Water was a bit discoloured but quite salty and improved the further up the beach you went. Ran up the beach to the shire boundary and tried a couple of other gutters but couldn't find anything else except a submarine that I couldn't gain any line on and which broke me off after a few minutes. Suspect it was a shark or a big shovelly. Quite a nice day on the beach - a bit of an onshore breeze to keep it cool and few people about.
Cheers Freeeedom
Did a run in noosa on Tuesday in the thundercat... from out around the nudie beach at the end of the national park is where the water is clean, the whole of laguna bay was dirty, the whole river has a large amount of fresh in it even on high tide, low tide is worse.... canals are fresh/brackish, noosa sound is the same... but the upper noosa river is beautiful pure fresh like always.
