Yamaha 115 2 stroke V 4 stroke is it worth $7000 more?
Hi all
Looking at a new boat and weighing up all the options V dollars and have found the 4 stroke option is going to cost $7000 more than the 2 stroke in the same HP ( 115) so the Question is a yamaha 115 four stroke worth $7000 more than a 115 two stroke. Is the 115 yamaha two that bad that you need to spend $7000 more for a 4 stroke?
I ve never had a Yamaha 115 2 stroke, do they have any vices?

Hi BigE, I have a precision mix 115HP 2 stroke pushing a SF565 Southwind approx. weight in water is 1400kg's. One thing I will say is it seems to be very reliable, very strong gearbox, no complex electronics such as injection ect. If I was buying new I would try & stretch the $'s for the 4 stroke mainly for the resale, fuel consumption/torque at idle & trolling. At cruise speed my fuel consumption is very good & consistant with 4 strokes & similar size/weight rigs, specs attached, but I have spent a lot of time lifting motor, changing props to get good economy. Mate has a 150HP 4 stroke Yamaha & it is silky smooth, very impressive. I have a used boat & motor & certainly could not justify upgrading to a 4 stroke with current boat. If I was buying new I would certainly stretch the $'s & buy the 4 stroke. Personal opinion.

I have the 130 yammy, and my only significant problem is range. I can deal with the higher fuel usage given the limited amount of time I actualy get to take the boat out - but where it is a pain, is when I am limited in range.
just ensure you have a really big fuel tank. I have a 150 l tank, and would prefer a 200l tank.
