Which Stradic for dropshot rods

Have bought an 8-12kg and 6-8 kg dropshot rod and am planning on running 15lb braid on the smaller one and 30lb braid on the bigger one. Was going to get a Stradic FI (which comes with 2 spools) to do both jobs. Both will be used for SPs with the smaller one also for throwing small slugs at spotties also.

Will a Stradic 4000 do both jobs? Will the 4000 have enough drag for the 30lb outfit? Will 30lb braid be too much to fish on the 8-12kg rod? Should I get a 5000 instead or will it be too heavy for the lighter outfit?

Can anyone fill me in on the pros and cons?

nah it should handle it no worries imho. i run 30lb on my 4000 shimano navi and it seems to run it fine. i think a 4000 would handle the bigger stuff better than the 5000 would handle the smaller. but ultimately its up to you!

30lb braid will be fine on a 8-12 kg stick too. most modern rod makers know that even though they say "4-6kg" they know that it may well be running 20lb or more. as long as you are sensible about the way you use it (ie no high sticking etc) you will be fine

The 4000 would suit the 6-8 nicely and the 5000 is much better for the 8-12. The 5000 seems a much bigger reel to me even though theres only a few oz between them. If you don't need the extra capacity I would go a 4000 and use it on the lighter rod. That will cover a host of fishing options. The 4000 still has 20lb of drag which is more than enough for the 30lb outfit

I was in the same boat as you in the end of winter preparing for the jack season and it has worked a treat in all situations. highly recommend the 4000, more is always better.

I'd actually go the 5000. Not a great deal of difference in size between the two but that little bit extra will come in handy on the bigger rod. I doubt you would have any dramas with it on the smaller rod, especially since it still has 15 lb on it.

I have a 30lb spin outfit with a 5000 Shimano on it. It's a stella but the same theory applies and very happy I went the 5000 over the 4000. I would have been undergunned a few times with some of the fish I have hooked if I had the 4000. The missus has a 5000 set up for her 30lb outfit too. It's the perfect size.

The 4000 will give you a depth of around 50 mtrs before it gets too risky with only a small amount of line left on the spool.

I have been investigating a new spin rod/reel to fill the gap.
I was looking at the Saragosa 5000 + Dropshot around 6-7ft 10kg.
(can't afford the reel + T-curve)
I think the size of the Saragosa VS Stadic 5000's are the same.
(anybody please correct me)
what I have learnt is the 4000, is good for <40m so you will then be limited if you go deeper, which in my case I want to cover shallow to 80m. (yes with 1 rod+reel).
Maybe worth looking at the Abu70stx, good comments on this site & is my 3rd favourite at present.
1st is the a 2nd hand Twin Power 5000, 12mths old with braid.........$460
