Thread: My first decent rod.

    My first decent rod.

After doing two rods from scratch previously ivé finally come up with something which i'm not embarressed to post.Lamiglas 10 - 25lb blank,American tackle guides.Prowrap underbind and blue\silver trimar over top,Alps reel seat.Didn't get the movement in the tiger towards the gip that i had on a mates rod recently, either i had too much pressure on it in the last 12mm or so or didn't burnish enough.Overall i'm stoked with the outcome for the entire rod. Thanks Graham and Ian for some valued input.

Great job all round! I like the locking wrap you used on your guides and your tiger turned out nice.

    Nice rod.
I like the little split grip.

If I had to guess I'd say you had some uneven top thread spacing on your tiger on the grip.
The other end has a ton of movement!
Heating with a hair drier then letting it sit until it's cold helps bed the threads before you pull the sacrificial thread.
    Cheers,
    Owen

Thanks Owen,i did heat the wrap but alas you may be correct,i'll pay more attention on my next project which is a mates rod. It'll be nearly identical to mine but with some subtle changes in underbind colour and length of butt setup.

I'm hopeing to use it next weekend.Might have to trial it on a bull, shark plenty round the Goldcoast canals at the moment. No intention of stopping there mate, have to finish mates rod, same as mine nearly. Two rods to reguide, one will actually be full rebuild. Was an 8foot rod that broke, now about 7 foot so i'll rebuild it for mates daughter for a nice little whiting rod. Then i'll grab another 5 blanks and go again.Think ivé got the bug.
