    TREV,
    As an engineer I would say that lump of boardwalk hitting the bridge with square on impact would do serious damage and be potentially catastrophic to the bridge support structure
    Do you really think it would have done that much damage to the bridge? when you see the size of the pilons and how easy the walk way broke up, i thought it might have been a hit and bounce off job?

    Considering that the bridge is designed to withstand a hit from a ship, I very much doubt that the walkway would have done much damage to the bridge. Though there may have been many other complications from it getting wrapped around the pylons. Kudos to the tug boat skipper for doing the right thing. A top effort from a top bloke.
