Behind my girlfriends house is a few hectares of flood plains (10 mins north of Bowen) that eventually feeds into a creek. I strolled through it yesterday afternoon and fished a likely gutter.
I used live and fresh halves of poddy mullet that were caught in the cast net and managed one jack, a bream and a small salmon that i think hit my empty hook while i was reeling in my line.
Went back early this morning and got jack-attacked! At least ten ferocious mangrove jacks (all released bar two) ranging in size from about legal - to about 45cm.
I was treated to an awesome arial display by a barra that eventually spat my "had seen better days" live mullet. I only had the barra on the line for about ten seconds, but a heart thumping, adrenalin rushing ten seconds it was (still grinning now.., and taking comfort from the fact its closed barra season).
Also managed a stupid, ugly flathead. Sorry, still thinking about the barra.
