    Flooding Fishing

After going out on monday in terrinble conditions to only get 2 fish we decided to go out today to chase some reds and redjew. Weather was the 10 to 15 SSE but managable , we left at dawn to try and see what obsticals we would miss from the raging freashwater flowing into the ocean from the fistroy river. After hearing on the radio about floating tanks and upside down catamarans and even live cows that were floating inside the islands we arrived sat our spot on the fern ground a odd 60 plus km out.
First drift seen a beautiful Nanny come on boardto my cousins huge delight with the huge current being a problem in the drift in the 55 m. Sharks were well entruly one after the other with buggar all between and we had to work for them . Between the sharks i got one nice nanny and the daughter scoring a good eating sized cod and then the mate with a good red then more sharks and more sharks then a big spangled hit the esky.
In betweent fishing a huge dolphin cruised in for a look at us and we threw him some pillys and to our suprize hooked into them and wanted more. He then stuck around us for a good 2 hours while we caught more sharks .
Headfing home we trolled thru huge schools of tuna for no hits and hit the harbour around 4 pm
Lots of floatage in the water so night travel is not an option. Now i hear we are getting more rain tonight and tomorrow yeah just what we need
    .

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Good stuff mate, at least you got a few.

Tomorrow looks like it might be the pick of the days for weather - heading to the islands with the family, and was planning an early trip up North on Friday - might need to reconsider the start time given the debris....

How far out did the fresh go?

    Re: Flooding Fishing

Great stuff mate. I'm stuck in Mackay with the boat and variable to 10 knots of breeze tomorrow and the doc tells me I can't get my stitches wet . Oh and I can't yet hold the rod because the pain in my arm is too great....

    Nice fish though.

    Cheers,
    Wags

    Re: Flooding Fishing

Thanks mate, I didn't end up going today, got up early and had a look, it wasn't perfect and I just wasn't convinced - it pissed down from about 8am anyway, so probably the best decision in the end given that I was taking the family.
Went up to Rocky instead, got back at about 3 and the ocean was like glass which doesn't help.

Another great session there, JT! Surprised you got out - can't imagine what the debris would be like spewing out of the Fitz! The water looks great where you were fishing, though. Hope you get out again soon, mate. Fresh has made things darn near impossible in my neck of the woods. One day I'll get a big boat...one day haha. Good stuff mate.

Live cows! Crikey! Maybe the farmers could kit out their blue heelers with snorkle and goggles and send them out to sea to muster

    Nice pics
