Just wanting to know how far tis fresh has spread out to sea. We are all desperate for an offshore day but not sure if there is too much fresh. Anyone given it a go?
The edge of the fresh in the bay last Friday was about the middle of the bay with the run in tide nearing full. No real dirty water line present, but started to lose its brown there and began to taste a little salty in the spray.
I flew out to Lady Musgrave Island with work on the Chopper thursday, out from Burnett Heads / Bundy it was 12 nauticle miles out to the clear stuff, it was on a run out tide, if you did go out the river and headed north, out of the general fresh water runoff path it was only about 2 miles from the beach. I came back from Woodgate today, south of Bundy and the beach water was brown, but salty as. The line was visible from the beach so guessing a mile out in that area. The debri will be the biggest concern for boaties in the Bundy area for months ahead, jetties, logs, sheds, 29 boats all gone from our local river, they will be out there just sub surface for ages. Wear your jackets when ever you are travelling offshore, you won't have time to put them on if you flip it when you hit a 60 foot 3 tonne tree. Stay safe all.
Cheers for that all. I went out in Moreton Bay Monday arvo for a look for a few birds but found none. The water over the shallow banks in the Rous were green instead of blue but looked ok. I did see a big palm tree floating out the river mout as I crossed from Nudgee beach so the warnings are to be considered. Good point about the jackets Marvin. Your in the drink in the blink of an eye.
we pulled a 14kg spanish out of some terrible looking water in the shipping channell yesterday .i would of sworn we were wasting our time,so you never know.
cheers scotty
hi twist, not shore wear the dirty water to clear water is, im tipping that it would be quite distint on a sunny day after the rain. I have heared that the water line is a killer spot to target mackeral and all the other pelagics. trolling i think is the go, i couldnt imagin the water line being more than a 1km out.
