Murphies off Mooloolaba

Great day yesterday (Sunday) so a couple of mates and I went for a fish. Spent a few hours trolling various lures and baits but not one strike wherever we went. Didn't get to Murphies til around 10.00 am but thought we'd try for a while. Floated some baits out but no luck again. The next three hours saw some nice tuskfish and moses perch. We caught some of the best maori cod we have seen there (up to 50+ cms. and let a few go that were just under 45 cms.). Got a red that went 50 cms. which had to be released. The best I have caught there so I guess legal ones are about. We just don't get up there often enough to persevere with the area. The bigger fish were consistently caught on lumps of mullet flesh. Still, it was nice to come home with a feed and know you've done the right thing by releasing undersize but desirable fish.

Sounds like a good day out,just out of curiosity,did your Tuskfish have worms in the flesh ?.I am in Bundy, and nearly everyone I catch has them.

giffo every tuskfish ive caught at mooloolaba has never had worms in them and thats over the last 12 months get a cpl just about every trip. few of the cod species has had them tho that i have caught.

The tuskfish were all clean. I've never caught one there with worms but have had a problem with them occasionally in the waters off Fraser Is.
