New Year's day at Raby Bay

Fished either side of high tide this morning at the canal mouth. It was cold wet and windy.

Bites were fairly regular there was no great size to anything. The lack of size was offset by the variety with bream (up to 24.5cm), tarwhine, snapper (27cm) and moses perch landed in the first 1.5 hours.

A change of location to near the boat ramp/VMR produced only an eel of about 40cm before the weather got too much as the bite slowed.

The hot cup of tea that greeted me when I got home was most welcome.

Did speak to one guy fishing plastics who landed a snapper for the plate and a couple of smaller ones.

The area definitely has potential as a productive land based location and I usually come away with something for the table.

    Cheers

I've been thinking of going there for months, but of course it hasn't happened yet.

But after reading your report, well, hmmmmm?

I agree Geoff - good looking fish and fun to catch.

TOL - well worth a go. I find that baits like pilchards/anchovies get the better fish. Prawns and whitebait tend to get aten by the pickers before the bigger fish can find them. Squid is a bit hit and miss.

Plenty of Moses in the canals at Raby Bay. I catch a few from the pontoon, and they're great fun!

Bream, Cod, Trevally, Flathead, Happy Moments, they're all here. I've had luck with various plastics, poppers, and unweighted bream hooks loaded with red meat.

    Cheers,

I have caught flathead, flounder, tailor, bream, moses perch, tarwhine and snapper in and around that area. I am yet to land any trevally there but would be keen to.
