Late report - more freshwater bream

I wasn't going to bother with this report, but there are so few reports being posted at the moment that I thought I'd add another.

I bought my grandson his first fishing rod for his fourth birthday in November. Up to now I'd been letting him swim a variety of lures (hooks removed) in their swimming pool, but a real fishing trip was clearly needed to whet his appetite. So just before Christmas I arranged to pick him up at the Deep Water Bend pontoon and run up to the freeway bridges to try to put him in touch with a bream or two. Of course his two older sisters weren't about to be left out of the fun so it became a shuttle service, giving them about an hour each (with a parent helping) before running them back and picking up the next.

Well it was a great success with everyone getting at least a couple of bream and getting their arms stretched by some catfish as well. Even the mud crabs cooperated with a legal crab for each of them when I raised 'their' pot.
The daughter and son-in-law were madly videotaping the action so I didn't get many pictures, but the main objective was achieved. The grandson is now pestering his parents about when the next fishing trip will be.

    YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!

    Cheers Freeeedom

Dont know about the Grandson, but the grand daughter looks pretty happy with her catch.
so that was the objective, a new fishing mate?....looks like it worked.

    well done mate.

Nicely done. Only thing left to do now is teach them the value of catch and release. *thumbs up*

EDIT: I didn't mean that to come across so bluntly... My point was meant to be that whilst they're young it's really positive if they can be taught the value of catch and release. Kids very easily find the satisfaction in letting a fish go. With stocks declining as our children grow into adults it's important that they have the right values otherwise it's fair to assume that their kids may not be able to fish at all.

Its amazing how a taste of the action can make such a difference. My middle child (11) would plainly state "I hate fishing, its boring. I hate boats, they're boring..." until she took 14 fish in a couple of hours. Now its hard to get out without her or her two sisters.

I guess like most of us, I spend most of my time out with the kids making sure they catch something - if they enjoy the day out then so do I.

My keep policy is I have enough to make a decent family feed or I don't keep any. They go into the overboard expanding creel until its home time. Most of the time we release everything we caught.

Looking forward to getting the big boat out here so I can get back to going offshore. With 4 females on board going fishing means all the facilities have to be up to scratch
Sometimes its better to look like an idiot than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.
