    Tues, 21/12/10, north reef.

    Howdy,
Well with my fast approaching move to ipswich decided to fish North reef, redcliffe while still reasonably close rather then the usual brissy river session. Winds were predicted to be kind and they were till about 0930.

So headed out of scarb harbour about 0430, straight to the large marker off north reef point. Idea was to bounce larger plastics and vibes off the bottom while observing for surface action. Pelagics all going to plan were the target. So still not really concentrating more observing who was around, first cast right at the bottom of the marker (1/2oz TT gold vibe) not two jigs and I'm on decent fight couple of short burst and totally unexpected and embarrasing to say my first legal grunter came in at 60cm so not a bad Pb. As we all do quiet thought to self this is going to be a ripper session. Well wasn't to bad no real luck on the pelagics, was mucking around on the light plastics over the reef when the bait schools came through well and truely boiling up but not usually for more then a minute or two. So as all recent reports and advice I had a light spin stick aboard with slug ready togo, over the mornig by the time I was in reach of school and got cast away only ever got one crack at them so on the 3 chances got three hook ups the one landed at 40cm, one little fella got off early but third one for sure was a Pb but impatients got the better of me was a drawn out fight on the light gear and school was still boiling so tried leader lifting it, we all now how that usually ends. I estimate it at 50cm.

So by now wind started to pick up, was going to head home but thought firstly I'd head into D bay flats out of the wind trolled for flatties for a while more just enjoying cruising really with no wind and rain no result.

So quick question guys for the spotties, do they get found that close too north reef and the marker? Otherwise general direction and distance from say the marker just that I can't go real far only in a 4.2 explorer. Cheers

Wishing you all a very happy xmas and new year!

    Phil

Good day out there. So the spottyes are on the north bay now and in good size?Good to hook up on the vibes as i have had no luch on them yet. My last boat was a 4.2 and i was out in all weather. Good little run about but be carefull if u add a leccy as that was my downfall with to much weight on the trailor with double batteries and cracked the hull about 7 times launching and retrieving. Good grunter there must have pulled like a train. Good hopes on the holiday fishing to us all as the rain is going to make it really hard. Cheers DD

ddobson - not real sure about these spotties and size just heard a couple of reports and was wondering how close they can get to the main land.

Yeah 4.2 is more then big enough no doubt justa little hesitent due to the explorers having very flat hull and low sides.
