Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

Just had the list through on the prizes we have for the last man standing......now Im peed off that I am not eligible. 2nd prize is a 68" plasma with quality home theatre sound system plus stand, and the next few prizes are TV's with home theatre systems......with plenty of other decent items right through the 40 prizes.(including wine fridges, espresso coffee machines, laptops etc).

I am dreading the thought of giving the invoice to the treasurer.

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

We have just moved our club weekend from this weekend to next weekend...so that we can get a better idea of what the conditions are like before we make a call on the tournament. ALL factors will be taken into consideration (including non fishing ones).

    Cheers

    Hi Jim

All going ahead at this stage. Water quality offshore is fine and the run across the bay seems ok....with another week to clear it should be even better. Had our club weekend this weekend....and the only thing that kept everyone back at the club was the wind. There were some rumours going around at the boat club that it had been called off. There is only one person that can call it off....and that is the chairman/tournament director, and one person that communicates that....which would be the Secretary (and thats me). My last conversation with the chairman was at 5pm tonight...and that was to organise the Registration and briefing night on Wednesday. So we will see you there Jim.

    Cheers

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

All looking good at this stage....saturday might be a bit 'iffy' but Sunday should be ok. Sorted out all the prizes tonight.....blardy hell....wish i was eligible for em.

already have 10 boats and 36 anglers registered, and the 40 entry forms we had at the front counter of the boat club were gone tonight so I had to have more printed....looking forward to a busy night at the registration and briefing Wednesday night (6pm onwards). A weighed fish could be a contender for the honours. Just remember they have to go line class...that is 8kg minimum weight.

ALL leaders and rigs will be measured on weighed and tagged fish....so make sure they comply with QGFA regs.

T-shirts look like collectors items too....very happy with end result.

    Hope to see everyone there.

    Cheers

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

A bit of a poor turn up Jim - have 25 boats signed up tonight. And with the exception of yours and two others they are all the 'bigger' boats. I noticed you picked up Dougie as a team member to fish with you and Ryan. You would have to be favourites to take out the under 7m's.

We have extended the entry closure and will take entries up til late friday. If any one wants to enter the comp...just pm me and I will email you an entry form.

It looks like it will be a 'weighed fish' tournament this year......so those who reckon they can pick up 8kg + cobes on 8kg line should do well.

    Cheers

hi greg im sure if the weather permits there will be another load of entries come in at the last minute, im still wondering if the wind predicated will get here considering that ex cyclone is moving north west now, we may get a last minute change in forecast??? lets keep our fingers crossed.

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

We were going to enter but unfortunatley we had vessel issues with an oil leak so we have not been able to enter this year, Very disappointed.

Good luck to all of those fishing the comp and hope the weather for Saturday improves.

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

looking very fishable for sunday. Saturday might be ordinary....but the forecast changes everyday. Those boats fishing inside the bay or Western Rocks might do well on the LT's and Cobes.

Bit of bugger there Lee. I know how much you were looking forward to fishing it.

I hope we do get a few more entries.....though the odds of winning the car at the moment are as good as you will ever get. See you there Jim.

    Cheers

Re: 2011 8kg Redcliffe Billfish Challenge

AHHH well. We ran the tournament..but both days fishing were cancelled because of the windy weather. Still............we had the dinners and raft ups both nights...the raffles were run and won...and the last man standing draw saw a very happy young bloke who had only got his licence three weeks beforehand, drive away in a Suzuki Jimny 4WD. The runner up in the LMS is still salivating over his 65" plasma TV and home theatre system.

For those that keep asking at the club "when is the tournament going to be held next?". The answer is ......Australia Day next year. The tournament was NOT postponed. It was completed. Through circumstances beyond our control we were unable to fish either day, and there were no other dates available to hold an 8kg billfish tournament. We still gave away over $50,000 worth of prizes, had a couple of great feeds, got a shithot t-shirt and told lots of fishing yarns over a substantial amount of lubrication.

Feedback recieved from the majority of entrants was 'even though we didnt get to fish, it was still a great weekend"

    Cheers

    Greg
