1770 last week of Feb 2011

    Hello all,
Got a crew together and we are heading to 1770 for the last week of Feb 2011. Never been to 1770 or the surrounds but looks fishy in places. Just wondering if anyone has some options outside and around. I have a 5.1M Ally and plan (weather permitting) to give the Bustard Head reefs a good bash for pelagics but unsure of any other possible locations. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Would love to be part of next years M&G but I am getting married in Fiji next July and after squeezing in a fish over there I better not push it for another trip in Sept (but hey you never know ).

    hey mate,
Have fished 1770 a few times now. If you have a 5.1 then I spose the offshore reefs are out of the question as that seems to be the place to go. If you have received marks for the inshore area like 5 mile 8 mile ds bust etc I probably wouldn't bother as these marks are given out by the local fishing shop ( I had to find out the hard way) unless you have a mate that has fished particular inshore areas and has done well. Bustard head seems to be good for spanish but really haven't talked to anyone that has done that well on the bottom but just like anywhere, keep an eye on your sounder while travelling as this is where you will find new ground and better places to fish. This is only my opinion though and hope this helps.

    cheers from boony

P.S Fitzroy reef has a protected lagoon if your keen. It's about a 65km run from round hill creek and musgrave also has a protected lagoon which is about 6okm's. Great places to pull up overnight but only if you have the fuel capacity. Look on the eastern side of these reefs for bommies while travelling (having your sounder on zoom will help pick these up) for Trout, lippers etc. I have a 4.8m center console and would take it out there overnight on a goof forecast.
Fishing can be defined as "A jerk on one end of the rod, waiting for a jerk on the other".

    Cheers for that info Boony,
I have as yet got no info as I do not know anyone who has fished there. I normally fish off cape moreton but 65 km's sounds a bit far for the 5.1 as keen as I am. Allways up for a GT or Spaniard so Bustard Head is definatly on the list.

    Thanks again mate, Jack

I believe there are good spots within your range but it's a matter of finding your own and keeping it to yourself. For bustard, trolling lures and trolling deadbaits slow but not sure about this time of year for spanno's down that way.

    Thanks again Boony,
I will give Bustard a good go and I'll keep the sounder zoomed in on our travels.

Hello reel _life, mate , the first time I went to 1770 I met a guy who goes there every year for the summer months and trolls the headland off 1770 for spaniards, and he said he cleans ups. So mate, if they are'nt firing there , go to Bustard. There is also the Banana gutter which I have pulled some good reefies off, but I think you need To be there at right time while they are biting. There is also a wreck not so far from the headland, which you are quite capable of getting to, which is quite easy to see on the sounder and is about the same distance as Bustard heads. If you want the the GPS marks, just let me know and i will get them for you, but any good GPS will show it anyway.

    Thanks Wardy,
I will pull the plotter and charts out and start having a look for the wreck. That's great info thanks mate. If I can't find Banana gutter I might ask for some more detail but really only going to be chasing pelagics anyway.

Thanks again mate, really appreciate it.
