I'm from SA and am heading up to airlie beach for a week in early february next year and was just after some tips about the fishing up there. Will be hiring a boat (around 18 foot) out of shute harbour for a day so any good spots near there would be helpful.. Have been to Airlie once before but didn't know where to fish.. Any tips or GPS marks even would be much appreciated as i would love to get onto some good fish.
Good luck in feb mate as our wet season will be in full swing and wind will be blowing its ass off you'll be better off chasing barra that time of year and a small tinny will do the trick. If your not concerned about eating them the dam is the best spot as there are heaps in there and they are big too. Lindsey at proserpine bait and tackle does charters up there and no 1 knows the place as good as him and where they are. If you want to eat them then up the tops of all the creeks will produce good fish. If its tail is black through it back. Yellow tail is what your after.
yeah pretty unpredictable up here at that time of year but u can get lucky with good weather. anywhere around shute harbour can produce fish on the fringing reefs, trout should be on the chew just depends on the amount of fresh in close. also some good deep drifting spots down long island sound for fingermark and nannygai look for deep water near happy bay jetty or just drift anywhere thru the gap between mainland and long is. u need neap tides tho as too much run to fish deep on springs during feb
