    sounder and gps quality assist

    Hi guys,

these two units came with the new project boat. I dont know anything about them at this stage so was hoping anyone with experience would share their opinions on them and whether or not they are worth keeping.

    Apelco FishFinder 460

    Garmin GPS Map 180

thanks in advance for the help

Re: sounder and gps quality assist

The Apelco 460 was a reasonably good piece of kit back 15 yrs ago (Raetheon was thier second brand and the cheap version was the JRC). Would be equivalent now to something like a Lowrance x52 in technology now, a little more punch but similar software capabilities.

The GPSmap 180 was a b&w chartplotter that was around the first of its kind on the market, soon overtaken by colour screens and quickly discontinued.

I would upgrade the GPS to a new chartplotter and the sounder could well service you for a while longer if it is still working well.
    Jack.
