PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant VBA_SCRIPT - assumed 'VBA_SCRIPT' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in ..../includes/functions_navigation.php(802) : eval()'d code on line 1 side imaging transducer placement
According to the instructional DVD I received with my new H/bird 998C SI, the transducer should ideally be placed in the centre of the transom (rather than to one side) to permit clear & unobstructed imaging to both sides of the boat. I'm curious to know what others that have mounted these transducers have done, and whether the side imaging has worked OK even if not centrally mounted.
Mate in a perfect world that could happen but it cant.Just mount it like you would any other transducer but maybe a tad lower in the water.Be prepared to get a spray guard though.
I had to place the side scan transducer on the port side about 50cm from keel. 50/200 is the same distance on the starboard side. Ideally the side scan should be in the middle, but the distance it protrudes from the transom would see it crushed by the motor leg.
I'm getting good pics, but the side scan picks up some prop wash. Solution is to trim the motor up a little until the wash disappears off the screen, but then again the wash only shows in the top 50cm of water and doesn't interfere with the imaging, see my previous post on HDS7 pics.
Thanks for those replies, I guess I'll just have to suck it & see. Can't say it really occurred to me until I watched the Humminbird DVD in which the fitted boat had the motor sitting on a jacking plate which moved it further back.
Bassfan, I'm running a 798c on my quinnie topender and have mounted the transducer on the mounting plate provided on the tinnie. It is probably 400mm to the right of the keel.
My side scan image has no interference at all. Like Toddy said though , you will likely need a spray guard. Although I'm not running my transducer any lower than I would on a standard unit I do get a impressive roosters tail from it.
I have read on previous posts that this was an issue with the shape of the 798c transducer so may not be an issue on the 998c.
Pretty much what Pointyfish said...my 998 is mounted on a Hornet on the original mounting plate. It looks as though it might get interference but I've had no dramas so far...works like a dream.
Another creek trial on Sunday. While the side and down scan is OK with the transducer location, overlay downscan isn't too good.
Had a chat to a local boating electgronics rep who explained that the transducers MUST be close, not 100cm apart, so that the down scan image is "pasted" accurately over the broadband image.
I read the manual quiet a few times, and the concept didn't sink in. It makes sense now.
So, back to the ally welder for another bracket 25cm from broadband transducer
