Thread: Cape York Headland Barra

I can understand why this site is losing more of the quality posters from the north up here. Every time you put up a good report of catching quality fish there are knockers from every which angle. If you don't like the article don't comment, simple as that. People need to just chill out.

Excatcly why i no longer put reports up. They last couple I did were just smashed around cos I took home a dozen fish "too much fish for just one person" sort of crap and "I was up there not long ago, no wonder it was so hard to catch a feed" bs.

    Just jealousy IMHO.

Thanks Nick for an awesome report as usual!!! Thanks for sharing what sounds like a magic day on the water!!!

Anyone who has read your reports knows that you responsibly practice catch and release fishing, which is a huge credit to you!! Keep up the good work.

    Thanks fellas,

You will never please everyone however the one thing I noticed was the fellas that pm'd me whining posted reports of 2 and 3 fish for 10 hours on the reef ha ha

A few people PM'd me a few months ago asking why I had stopped posting my offshore reports. You would never believe it but I actually had people telling me that I was a bad role model for the sport as I should stop fishing for Nannygai once I had caught my bag as they do not release well??????????????????????

Basically they want me to travel an hour to my mark, load up and get my bag limit within an hour and travel and hour home again.

What people do not realise is that we have no deep water here inside the Ribbon Reefs. I am usually fishing in less than 25 meters of water and have caught between 80 and 110 legal reefies (Red Emperor, LMN, Spangleds and Trout) on each of the last 7 trips that we have done. I have never kept more than 20 fish between four of us, 5 fish per person and I am bad for the hobby???????????????

And Nick the reason you catch quality fish like that is because you spend plenty of time out there, finding the fish. People are jealous when you get good spots and don't give them up to them. Because if you do they'll go there and flog the pants of the place and there will be nothing left.

Also how much of the year can you not get out there amongst them? It's an isolated part of the world and even more isolated when the wind is blowing 25 knots.

Mate, I hope you never stop positing reports like this. I personally always enjoy reading about success stories from other parts of Australia especially with photos to back them up

damn if I caught some barra like that I'd most certainly grab a quick photo... if fisheries saw me I'd ask "wouldn't you take a quick pic of a barra too?"

barra released unharmed after some fun, nice work Nick, keep up the posts mate and see you up there sometime soon (when it's slightly less humid)...
