After a rain soaked fish on Monday, I wasn't in the mood for the muddy brown Pine River yesterday so instead of turning left from the deepwater bend boat ramp I turned right and kept going. Bramble Bay was just as bad and it wasn't until past Woody Point that things got clearer.
I motored around and set anchor just off a beacon that had some good balls of bait showing. I threw out a big chunk of left over cuttle fish on a bait runner and started throwing a squidgie wriggler around. First cast got a solid hit but no hook up. A few more goes and managed to pull in a 30-ish cm squire which put up a good fight on the light gear. I managed 3 of these little guys when the bait runner started slowly ticking over. I watched it for about 30 seconds before I pick it up and turn the handle. With a bit of weight on the end I set the hook and reel this little guy in.
He was the only legal fish for the session but a fish is a fish and there was enough happening to keep me amused. I wasn't out for more than a couple of hours but it was a nice way to spend a rare sunny morning.
Cheers.
