I wet the kayak this morn - paddled out into a sloppy moderate but increasing northerly. Scored a snapper on the pillie rig and a bonito on the slug. Trolled pillie#1 around for over an hour while pillie#2 got a couple of hits. Then i hooked up again on pillie #2 but the fish cut through my last 2 - 3/0 gangies and a lost it. Then pillie#1 screamed and i thought spano but then it went down into the reef (big cobia). I proceeded to pull my ski on top of it so it would swim out of its hole (this has worked on cobes before) but as it moved about in its cave the wire gave way. Then i cast my 15g slug under two birds and got smashed. This fish took off on my 4lb light spin outfit see photo. The fish easily took 300m of braid and then i reeled it back in only to have it taken away again, this process continued for about 30mins. An estimated 1.2m spano surfaced shook his head and out comes the hook. Needless to say that was my third swearing sesh for the day. Then i continued to slog it out against the strong north east breeze to chase the spotts. I finally caught up to them sent a slug under the birds and hooked what i thought was a bonito until he realised he was hooked. 5mins later yeee haaa i grabbed the spotties tail and paddled back in through the small surf. Not a great day but mission accomplished fresh fish for dinner.

hell your on good run up there. keep it up but let some of them get down here. hopefully it will be another good year.

Yeah can't wait for 'em to get down to Coffs, if we ever get rid of this cold filthy green water that is!
